St George Bank has been forced to frantically resolve an issue that left some customers' visa payments duplicated and others with no money in their account.
The Westpac-owned financial institution confirmed it is dealing with an issue in a series of tweets posted across several hours on Sunday.
"We're aware of an issue impacting some of our customers where Visa debit card payments have been duplicated overnight," a spokesperson for the bank tweeted in the morning

"We are working to resolve this as a priority and will keep you updated here. We appreciate your patience and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you."
When the issue was still not resolved this afternoon, further messages were issued.
"If you have been impacted by this issue overnight, we want you to know we're sorry and are working to fix it as quickly as possible," another tweet said.
"We are continuing to resolve this issue as a priority and want to assure impacted customers that no one will be left out of pocket as a result of this issue."
By 6pm, the bank said the issue had been resolved, with account balances restored to to normal.
"We want to apologise to all customers impacted and assure them no one will be left out of pocket as a result of this matter," the bank said.
Many customers responded to the bank's twitter messages with outrage.
"I cannot access any money. All my transactions have been duplicated," wrote one customer.
"Balance at zero. I can't shop or do anything. It's the weekend, need to do groceries."
"I woke up this morning $350 overdrawn. Three days worth of transactions duplicated. No expectations. Can't call them," another customer wrote.
The spokesperson then tweeted that while telephone bankers are available to assist, wait times are longer than usual. The issue has not impaired the bank's other services.
