Thieves have stolen nearly $500 worth of play equipment from the front yard of a Melbourne home.

The mum-of-two has been keeping her daughters occupied on a trampoline, swing set, a play table, and a slide that helped her youngest take her first steps.

"Literally her first steps were in the garden from the slide to me," she said.

Ms Carter is a part-time student with a compromised immune system, so she brought the playground to her front yard.

"My husband leaves at 5.30am gets home at 6am… They took away the one thing that was saving our sanity throughout the day," the mum said.'

Thieves have stolen nearly $500 worth of play equipment from the front yard of a Melbourne home.

She suspects those responsible had watched her and girls play in the yard and then returned on Friday night to steal the equipment.

"I haven't slept the last couple of nights – I've been getting up throughout the night making sure the doors are locked – looking outside the window – keeping the window open now because I'm scared they're going to come back," Ms Carter said.

She and her husband have started raising money to replace the equipment, and will make sure it is secured next time.
