Man charged after teen girl assaulted at Sydney park

Police have charged a man after he allegedly approached and assaulted a teenage girl at Tempe, in Sydney's inner west, on the weekend.

The 13-year-old girl and her father were at Tempe Reserve last Saturday afternoon when the incident happened.

Police will allege the 28-year-old man from Belmore approached the girl while she was sitting on a bench in the park.

The man spoke to the teen before allegedly assaulting her.

He fled the scene after the teen's father and other witnesses confronted him.

Police were called and the same day arrested the man at a home in Belmore.

He was taken to Campsie Police Station where he was charged with common assault.

The man was refused bail yesterday and is set to appear at Central Local Court on Friday 22 October 2021.

Investigations are continuing.
